Who We Are

On behalf of the Kale Heywet Church in North America (KHCNA), I would like to say welcome to our website. This is one of the ways we connect and communicate with one another. The Bible in Hebrews 10:24-25 says that we need to consider to motivate one another for love and good works, and it encourages us not to neglect the assembling of ourselves together as we see the day of the Lord approaching.

The vision of seeing the Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church (EKHC) expanding its gospel ministry and influence outside Ethiopia was in the hearts and minds of the EKHC pioneer leaders for many years. This vision began to be seen in North America when EKHCLO was legally established in the United States in 2009. After four years, in 2013, EKHCLO organized the fellowship for KHC members who live in North America. In 2014, the first conference was held in Atlanta, GA. Since then, the conference continued annually for the fourth time in four different cities of the U.S.

God has repeatedly spoken in those conferences that we are sent by God to North America as messengers to share the gospel to all people and to plant churches. We are challenged that we have given much by God, and we have received the legacy from EKHC pioneer leaders to follow their example of proclaiming the gospel and planting churches wherever God put us. We should not imitate others to live a lifestyle of earthly comfort and safety for ourselves as people call it “The American dream;” instead, we are called to make a difference in the world in words and deeds.

Therefore, now is our time to shine the gospel. Let us pray together, encourage one another, and be engaged to fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ in North America and beyond.

The Gospel Wins!

KHCNA Statement of Faith

God the Father

We believe in God who is self-existent, eternal, all-knowing, all-powerful, creator of the universe and the human beings, and present everywhere. God has eternally existed in three co-equal persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19-20; 2 Corinthians 13:14). The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are in agreement and unified with each other as the Godhead. We believe these three persons are co-equal and are one God. (Genesis 1:1, 26-27; 3:22; Deuteronomy 6:4; Job 38, 39, & 40; Psalm 90:2, 139:1-4, 7-10; Isaiah 40:13-17,45; 1 Peter 1:2; John 1:1, Colossians 1:15; Revelation 4:11).

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He is God who was born of the Virgin Mary, fully God and fully human. Jesus is coequal with the Father and the Holy Spirit, and present and participating in creation. Jesus took on human flesh in the fullness of time so that He could live a sinless life and offer Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the cross. He was raised from the dead on the third day, victorious over the power of sin and death. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead and to make all things new. We believe that the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, and that Jesus Christ is the only Mediator between God and human beings. (John 1:1; Philippians 2:6; John 14:9; Isaiah 7:12; Luke 1:30; Hebrew 4:6; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8; 1 Timothy 2:5; 3:16; Romans 3:24-25; Mark 16:19; Acts 1:9, 11, 10-42; Revelation 1:7-20; 22:12; 1 Thessalonians 2:16, 4:15-17; John 1:10)

The Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is God, who is a co-Creator with the Father and Son, sent by the Father through the Son to convict the world of sin. The Holy Spirit is a comforter who leads us into all truth, and empower and equip the Church to carry on Christ's work on earth. The Holy Spirit dwells in every Christian from the moment of salvation, and He distributes spiritual gifts, and He convicts the world concerning sin, righteousness and judgment. (Genesis 1:2; John 14:26; 15:26; 16:8; 2 Peter 1:21; Acts 1:8; 1Coranthians 12:4-11; Ephesians 1:13; 4:11-12).

The Bible

We believe that the Bible, both the Old and the New Testament, is the Word of God. The Bible has a human and divine authors where they wrote under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it is inspired by God, the Bible is infallible, inerrant, and absolute truth. It is the ultimate and final authority for Christian beliefs and living (Psalms 12:6; 119:105; Proverbs 30:5; 2 Timothy 1:13, 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Romans 15:4; 1 Corinthians 10:11; 1 Thessalonians 2:13).

Salvation

We believe that all have sinned and fell short of the glory of God. The wages of sin is death and eternal separation from God. Salvation is a free gift of God. Jesus Christ's death and his resurrection is the only sufficient payment for our sins. It's only by grace through faith that one can receive this free gift. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their life. This is evidenced by repentance, confession, baptism by immersion, and a life submitted to Christ (Matthew 1:21; Luke 1:68-69; John 1:12, 14:6; Romans 3:23; 5:1, 6:23;10:9-13; Galatians 3:26; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; Acts 2:38-40).

The Church

We believe that the Church is the gathering of believers who have come to faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord and who have been baptized by the Holy Spirit and became one body at the moment of their conversion. The main mission of the church is the Great Commission, to preach the gospel and to make disciples of Jesus. We believe that the Lord Jesus is the head of the Church (Matthew 16:18; Acts 2:41; 15:13-17; Ephesians 1:3-6; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13).

Water Baptism

We believe that baptism is a public declaration of one’s faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to follow him. All believers who accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior would be baptized in obedience to Jesus’ commandments. We believe that the Christian baptism by immersion in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Mathew 28:19-20; Mark 16:16; Acts 10:47-48; Romans 6:1-4).

Holiness

We believe that Christians are called to glorify the Lord by obeying the word of God and living a holy and fruitful life. (James 1:22-25; Luke 8:8-15; 2 Timothy 2:19; Hebrews 12:14; 1 Peter 1:15-16; Galatians 5:22-24; 1 John 2:6)

Marriage

We believe that marriage is a holy union between one man (by birth) and one woman (by birth). We believe that marriage is a holy institution created by God in the Garden of Eden. It is a covenant between a man and a woman to be together until death. (Genesis 2:18, 21-24; Ephesians 5: 21-33; Matthew 19: 3-9; Hebrew 13:4).

The Second Coming of Christ

We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ who ascended into heaven to the right-hand side of God the Father will return from heaven to earth. Jesus’ second coming will be personal, visible, and glorious. When he returns both the living shall be transformed and the dead in Christ shall be resurrected for judgment. All believers will live in a new heaven and a new earth with him forever. Those who did not obey God and did not believe in Jesus will be judged and cast into the lake of fire for everlasting punishment which is called the second death (Mathew 25:34-46; Luke 12:40; Acts 1:9-11; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 20:10-15, 19:11-14).

Our History

From Ethiopia to North America

The Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church (EKHC) was born out of a powerful missionary movement in the early 20th century, focused on spreading the Gospel, equipping believers, and planting churches throughout Ethiopia.

In the early 2000s, Ethiopian believers living abroad began gathering in prayer and worship, forming churches across North America. These congregations eventually united as the Kale Heywet Church in North America (KHCNA) to continue the mission of EKHC in a new context.

Today, KHCNA is active in multiple cities, working to plant new churches, train leaders, and build communities that reflect Christ.
